Impero Classroom, Wellbeing and Safeguarding syncs with Google Workspace. This allows users with Administrative access to sync staff and student user by isolating Organizational Units from Google Admin. Then teachers are able to select their Google Classrooms.
For optimal use, students and staff should be organized into OUs per school site.
Granting Admin. Consent
- Log into Backdrop using an admin. account linked to a Google Workspace account that has read/write access to student and staff users as well as Organizational Units.
- Navigate to Administration in the primary menu
- Locate "Integration Settings">"School Setup" in secondary menu
- Choose "Set Up With Google" and be sure you are granting consent with the proper google account
Choosing and Syncing Student and Staff Users
- After granting consent, navigate to "Integration Settings">"Edit Google Import Details"
- Click on "Select Student OUs" and select all student OUs that contain students for the school you are logged into
- Repeat the process for Staff OUs
- Both staff and student OUs should be mapped for a successful sync
- If the school has a specific subdomain, you have the option to enter it under "Email Domain"
- If you want students to be automatically logged into Impero when they log into their device, select the box beside "Include Automatic Login"
- Select "Save"
- A sync should run within 24 hours
- Note: If OUs are renamed during the school year, it is required to pull over the newly named OU in Backdrop.
Teachers Selecting Google Classrooms

Add Teacher User Group Permission
- Under Administration>Manage Staff Groups>Teachers> Enable Permission for Google Classroom
- Permission is located under Permission>Students> Allow Importing from Google Classroom
- Repeat for all User Groups that need access to import Google Classroom
- Once an Administrator has run a sync, a button will appear on a teacher's "Student Groups" page that will allow them to "Choose Google Classroom"
- To select their Classrooms, they click the button and select the Classrooms from the pop-up list
- Teachers can click this button and update their selections at any time
- Selections will update with the next sync, so there may be some delay with selections showing in the Student Groups panel.
