Minimum System Requirements for Impero Edlink

The specific system requirements for running Impero Edlink on different operating systems are below. 

Before downloading the latest version of the Impero EdLink app, ensure:

  • your system meets these requirements  
  • your operating system is up to date 


If your system does not meet the minimum requirements, the features of Impero Edlink may not work as described. 

Actual requirements may also vary based on your system configuration along with the applications and the features you install.

Environmental requirements

  • An 802.11 wireless network that is open or using a Pre-Shared Key (PSK)
  • Ports that need to be open for registration: 80, 443
  • For Apple devices: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203609 but essentially TCP ports 5223, 2195, 2196, 443 (5223 and 443 for enrol and control. Rest of are for MDM servers)
  • For Android and Chrome: Outbound TCP connections on ports 5228-5230.
  • Schools utilizing SSL-inspecting proxies will need to add a temporary network without SSL interception in order to configure tablets
  • Schools need to ensure consistent connectivity and sufficient bandwidth is available for any initial deployment of app

Recommendation

Impero recommend the use of Apple's Caching service. A caching server can help you make sure all your devices are up to date, while leaving your Internet bandwidth almost untouched. It caches all software updates, App Store purchases, iBook downloads, iTunes U downloads (apps and books purchases only), and Internet Recovery software that local Mac and iOS devices download.


What this means, practically speaking, is that instead of making all the Mac and iOS devices in your network run out over the Internet to download and update content from Apple's servers, you can host those updates on your servers. This ensures faster updates and less external bandwidth usage.

*Google and Impero only support 3 versions of Chrome OS (the latest release build and two versions behind). 

Automatic updates for Chrome OS devices can be managed from the Google Admin console and it is strongly recommended you enable this feature to maintain functionality with Impero Edlink on your Chrome OS devices.

When users visit the URL added to the Blacklist, they have the option to send the request for access and we can approve it. But once we've approved it and then deleted from the whitelist, we will not get request access again for the same URL.

When selecting the USER OU's to sync in Chromebook settings, the OU count says 3 OU's in total but only two OU's have been selected - "Students and Teacher". The other problem with this is that in the students OU there are only 26 students but when they synced the students, it pulled in all 594 students as if it pulled in from the top level OU.

The action highlighted in the screenshot should be sending the application id parameter (the name is as I have typed it) but doesn't so the sync tries to run for all applications. When we are busy, this action times out.

When we attempt to select the French language, we have an issue with loading. It seems that Mobile Guardian stops working - the page doesn't load after switching to French.

Existing user with email. If I try to invite an existing user to a new school as a parent user, I receive the error Integrity constraint violation: 1062 Duplicate entry for key 'users_email_unique'.
We should be loading the existing user and adding the school and role links instead of creating a new user.

When I try to remove the uploaded media using the trash icon before the media is added, then an error occurs and the trash icon stays visible.

When the block application setting is applied, then only the Edlink app would be accessible on the device, the interface should however display it as being off * - We have tested this on two devices running Android v7 and they appear to block all apps which ask for the pin code to unlock them when accessed. However, the Edlink app is also intermittently asking for the pin code.
The Edlink App and MG app should be the only application not needing a password when user blocks all applications.

User seems to be experiencing an error when trying to upload a pdf book and push to devices.

Pressing on the notification opens the app. Pressing notification should open the app and prompt user if he wants to join it.

The settings seems to be saved as applications are being scoped but when navigating away from the settings page and coming back to application settings the changes does not display.

When using the Whitelist option, under the Profile settings>application options, everything seems to be blocked including the applications that I have added to the whitelist.
All apps on the whitelist should be allowed and all other applications should be blocked.

Seems like the iOS update page is not showing the correct number of devices that has updates available.
When clicking check or apply updates, a message pops up saying "no devices found to check updates" or "no devices found to update".
Updates do seem to be triggering on the devices in the list if i check the command logs - so the number of devices needing update does not seem accurate and the pop up message does not seems to make any sense.

When adding an application to a device using the self-install function. I add a self-install tag to the application and then proceed to add the tag to the Device. The Applications do not show up in the Catalogue. There is nothing in any categories. Tagged both Edpuzzle and Bloxels in District view or School View neither appear in the Catalogue. I tried District and School view separately with the tags not at the same time.
Add a self-install tag to an application and then add that tag to the iOS device that it will show up in the catalogue in the Mobile Guardian app for download and install.

I am not be able to remove a tag on a district level. I tried to remove it and select save changes. it informs me that Settings saved successfully. However once that is finished loading it comes back again.When I remove a tag by selecting the 'X' on the tag it should remove. I select save changes and it says successful that the tag is no longer appears in the tags section of the application settings.

When trying to configure Notifications Setting on the school dashboard I noticed duplicate settings and descriptions in the Notification Settings List.

When trying to update the application on the dashboard and the devices. You select Push Updates in the application and Go to the devices and select Sync Application Updates and it only runs a command for Kindle and not for Outlook, therefore it does not update. Which means when you go back to the Outlook devices list you still see that the device has an update available. When you check the MDM history, I found it only updated one application in the list.
 When you select Push to Update and select Sync Application Updates all applications should update and the Last Updated column should update to the date you updated. meaning all applications should now be up to date on the device and reflect as such in the applications list.

 The updated change is not storing the changes.

It seems that the iOS device has an issue with profiles In MG app, we can see that sometimes our device has no assign profile.

Unable to see device location on school dashboard when navigating to device details. the map just shows the device as being located mid-ocean.
The device location information needs to display the last known location of the device to the nearest m Set by admin.
The location of the device needs to be updated and checked based on the settings selected by admin.

The date for the last mdm update is displayed as 9 months ago, but the device has had acknowledged commands today.
Check that the date is being updated correctly when the status updates. If it is, check that interface is using the correct date.

No call is made to the API when we get the checkin so the student is not linked to the device.

User information is not received on the checkin, but is received when the device calls for commands.

When selecting pre-configured category based on age, the age selector remains visible after you have made a selection.
The age category selector should disappear after you have made a selection

When selecting the pre-configured category configurations based on age eg 3-7 the category count seems incorrect. There are only 8 categories for age 3-7.

App and book syncs are triggered when student signs in on Chromebook. This causes load when there doesn't need to be since we don't manage Chromebook applications.
Change to look for only iOS and MacOS as device types to trigger the app and book syncs.
To test, check that Chromebook tags are still changed correctly when signing in with students with different tags.

Apps are being blocked on student devices which are not configured on the blacklist
Only apps added to the blacklist section just be blocked on the student’s devices.

When creating a new school within a district the new school does not inherit the global preferences setting from the District eg. "override device tag with student tag upon sign in"
This setting is turned on by default for every new school even if the global setting is turn off on a district level.
What should happen is that when a new school is created it should inherit the global setting from the district.

Customers has been complaining that the are getting stuck during DEP enrol with a message "Awaiting final configuration"
Whenever we ask them to turn off the Multi User DEP setting, this seems to resolve the issue.

When you change the dropdown to 25 it should show 25. If you select 100 it should show 100. When you select the next arrow, it should show the next list of devices not the same first 10. Provided there are more than 10.

We can see a wrong notification when the "Push MDM app" action is performed. A displayed message should be updated.
 result "push_mg_app" message should be changed with "Successfully sent."

 

 

New Features

Revoke All VPP Licences


We want to give admins the ability to revoke all VPP licenses for devices. 

This can be triggered in the device details section under Installed Applications.


This will not trigger removal of the apps via MDM command.
This will send a single request for all licenses you want to revoke, so will only be one call to the VPP service.

Since VPP license requests can take some time to complete, this may have to be done in the background. If this is the case, then use socket messages to keep the user informed.
